anyone had any experience of installing/using a domestic rubbish compactor? I know these are popular in the States.

Mods - feel free to move thread if there's a better home!

    Thanks

Hi Folks - have wondered about this too a few times......Would love to hear some opinions :D

p.s. is due to a recent trend of having to stand on the contents of my wheelie bin every Mon. morning ;)

We installed a couple in the 80's, I think they were In Sink Erator.
Made to fit under a worktop with a pull out door.
Worked ok, but didn't catch on, maybe KAL could get you one if you wanted.
Big disadvantage was you had to use their cardboard/heavy paper bags, black sacks wouldn't work. So you can guess the cost.

hi we installed a bag compactor recently in the cinema i manage, what it does is compacts all waste (can be in bags or loose) into 1 bag. I think we can get about 9 bags down to 1. Its a great thing, saves us about 200 a month

There was guy on some radio show a couple of sundays ago about his biz of a bin compactor, basically a contraption that you stick on the bin (grey/green) and squeeze the rubbish down,he rekoned you get twice as much rubbish in the bin with it. Ben Dunne is getting on board with him apparently. I though it was bit over priced delivery wise,http://www.bintrasher.com/
The other downside I imagine is the rubbish exploding out of the bag and all over you.

i had one until about 6 months ago when it died. I bought it 2nd hand off eBay in 2005 and it was brilliant; it lived until 2017 - Electrolux I think. If I could find another, I'd get it tomorrow

They are very hard to source here alright.

I remember years ago when I was a wee lad around 5 years old I was at this posh English lady's house and she had one. The door was open so I closed it and pushed some button for divilment. Of course that button sent the plunger down so door would no longer open, this scared the sh1te out of me as I was expecting a bollicking from the English lady
