    Hi Everyone -

Kings Inns entrance exam results out today. 217 lucky candidates are off to Hogwarts for an academic year. Now just the little matter of the fee, beg borrow or steal??!

Is 217 more than previous years? It seems quite a lot.

Congratulations to everyone who passed! Commiserations to those who didn't.

I'm not sure - I think around 180 people did the course last year but thats not to say only 180 people passed. I'd say if 217 passed than 185 - 205 will end up doing the course, some people will inevitably have work committments, financing problems etc or will have taken up a place on a masters or Phd course.

I find that the Inns are being really unreasonable. I mean, results today and they expect us to start on Monday week. Thats 6 working days. When I told my boss (who is very very reasonable) he couldn't believe they would expect this. PLUS, unless you have the first instalment (7K) by wednesday they forfeit your place. I'm going to have to start knocking on the banks door. (again).

Cycleoin, I think your stats are correct. The figures I heard on day one this year were 255 seated Monday, 220 seated/remaining on Friday 24th. So that pass figure is good.

I don't agree that the Inns are being too unreasonable, but then again I've been there for the past two years and know the fees and structure.

I'd carefully consider not taking an offered place, as next year the pre-requisites change. Contract is required on the Entrance exam in lieu of Company and Administrative Law is now also required to be passed in a similar vein to jurisprudence or other subjects.

I too have breathed a sigh of relief and am looking forward to
    hogwarts
    again!

I'm no mathematician, but does that mean that only 3 people failed?

Well I guess if you take it that people 'bolted' from the exam halls and left as well as natural fails then its more like 30 odds. So we'll start with 255 and finish with 217(?) ....38?

Can I take it that you are starting Monday week then? What I mean by unreasonable is that they are giving us 6 working days notice between results and commencement. That is crazy, they should either release results earlier or have entrance exams earlier. They must realise that people in the real world work to make money to buy food to survive?! I felt like a low life giving my employer (who has been great to me from starting undergraduate studies right up until now) a weeks notice!

Yes the Inns are unfair - get used to it!

Guys, please keep in mind that many of you may be entitled to grants of around €5000 to assist with your fees. There are also tax reliefs available to most candidates. Make sure to check this out!

Cheers LawLord! I've been approved for the maximum grant - just under 6K which definitely eases the pressure! I'm suprised by how many people are oblivious to the local vec/county council grants!
