I am doing up a logo for a carpentry company and i am looking for ideas for the design.

the writing part is fine but i am looking for ideas some sort of image to incorporate into the logo so people can guess from it what sort of company it is.

anyone any ideas to help me, they would be much appreciated.

take a look at this thread ...
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055102988&referrerid=&highlight

spidermonkey posted some great links in there ...

Its difficult to give ideas if you don't give a lot of details ... you may find people willing to give you a hand ... or an idea

but carpentry is a bit generic ... stick a hammer and a saw on it :D

    thanks forbeit.

its the actual logo i am having trouble with.

making it look like a carpentry companys logo keeping high quality in my mind.

its a small general carpentry company (fitting floors, hanging doors, fitting kitchens, shelves etc... )
but he needs to keep it open for expansion if needed.

ahhh having a nightmare of a time at the moment.

    thanks again.
find boards (boarders) so helpfull great site.

heres whats floating in my head, very quick imagery

think of a carpenters plane, only an overview
its butted to the left margin and it looks like it has just planed the paper to reveal the name on a wood grain

i would do the work but i've too much on my plate, hence the lack of regular posts.
im sure someone else could come up with something better

We can give you far more ideas if you give us a name or initials to work with. The best logos aren't made up of seperate entities where the "writing part is fine" and you just add on an image, the two work together.

close but as i said, 'an overview'.
those shapes are too distracting and to be honest it took me a minute to figure out what it was. it reminds me of looking down the side of an aircraft carrier as if you were standing on a pier and it was docked next to you.

I wasn't attempting to follow your instructions at all, just giving a quick example of text being used a little creatively in keeping with the theme.
