That is a very broad statement. Why not jusk ask us to recommend you stuff while you're at it? Some guidelines would be helpful. However, I'll cover as many genres as I can think of in a short post. Nothing here will be too controversial or indie.

Thrillers: In terms of newish ones, the cream of the crop would be Se7en and the Silence of the Lambs.

Drama: The first two Godfather movies are incredible. Also, check out American Beauty, the Ice Storm, the Taxi Driver, The Shawshank Redemption, (and allowing for some serious quirkiness) Stranger than Fiction, and the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Comedy: I'm not crazily into many comedies, so these are more the movies that make me laugh: Dazed and Confused, This is Spinal Tap, The Big Lebowski, The Blues Brothers (although not a comedy at all), Some Like It Hot.

Western: Check out all Sergio Leone's westerns, and it is imperative that you watch them in order, i.e. For A Fistfull of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, and Once Upon a Time in the West. Also, The Searchers is the best John Wayne western, and I also like the Wild Bunch. In terms of modern ones, I loved Unforgiven, and Open Range was good too.

Hitchcock: I'm such a Hitchcock fan that I'll list these seperately. His best is Psycho, in my opinion. Scared me senseless, but you said you're not in to horror. Rear Window was second best. Grace Kelly's performance in this is the sexiest performance I've ever seen. After that, the Birds, then Stagefright, and after that it is hard to catagorize.

That's all for now. I could post here for hours, but work calls to me.
