    LOL

I blame Boards for glorifying ninjas ;)

    Linkage

Two women disguised as ninjas and armed with a sword are being hunted by police after they held up a petrol station.

'Ninjas' hold up petrol stationPolice said the two women tied up the cashier before escaping with cash, lottery tickets and cigarettes.

Reports said one was carrying a samurai sword, while the other had a dagger.

They were dressed all in black, apart from white gloves - but the way they moved around the shop indicated the ninja training only went as far as the costumes.

The robbery took place in Richland, Pennsylvania, US.

Cops are now hunting the two women, and have appealed for information.

Chief Robert Amman, of the Northern Regional Police Department, said: "They were all covered in black and carrying swords, so it did appear that they were dressed like ninjas.

"Swords, daggers could be used to seriously harm victims, so this is a very serious crime."

Here's a handy guide for people who don't know what ninjas are.

    I think you
    a) exaggerate the power of boards
    b) underestimate the power of ninjas

    Exaggerate???? Boards Rules Ok!

I just have this mental image of Karl Hungus and piggy going at each other with Samurai swords and Terry and Kar refereeing from throne like armchairs.

In feudal Japan everyone basically got their swords from the same people - sword smiths. All swords during the certain eras in Japan were more similar than different. In fact, Black belt magazine just came out with an issue covering that exact topic.

Now back to Ninjas - they were pretty good to make people think they were female, huh? ;)

People glorifying ninjas in a comical manor on the internet is both new and original. I for one have never heard of anything to do with ninjas on the internet. Especially not anything to do with comparing ninjas to pirates or asking ninjas questions on a youtube vblog. That would be crazy. Glorifying ninjas definatly originated from Boards.

I expect to see lots of pictures of The New Boards Ninja Team when I return tomorrow.

And perhaps we can ask for a Ninja Team forum. :D

good thing they brought the ceremonial weapons rather then the guitars, else the shopkeeper would have totally exploded

And its a bit of a stretch to think a sword smith couldn't produce more than one kind of sharp pointy metal stick-especially the reputedly highly skilled smiths in Japan. It also underestimates the sophistication of the Japanese understanding of the arts martial.

The Samurai blade is curved, meant for sweeping strokes or a "draw cut", which is legend at lopping things off and sawing through flesh or light armour. Also note the similarities between the traditional katana and cavalry sabres of the nineteenth century; they served much the same purpose. It however is thoroughly crap against armour, which is why Saracen scimitars had such a hard time against the heavily mailed knights of the crusades, at first anyway.

This is also why a lot of early European swords were either straight or steeply tapered - you could use it to hack as well as poke, which is the only way you are getting through heavy armour.

The "traditional" ninja sword is slender and straight and more intended for thrusts, in fact it might have been custom designed to take out someone wearing armour (ie someone with money and presumably power). You won't be able to take out a lot of people with it, trying to pull a sword out of someone is a bit like pulling it out of a wooden log, but if you have relatively few targets it's a good tool.

However, if in doubt, ask a ninja!
