CPU install - silver compound

Just got a new CPU and was looking at the base last night.
There are 3 strips of silver compound on the bottom.
    See the attached jpg.

Just wonder should I leave it and just install the CPU or
Should I take this off and add my own arctic silver compound,
or leave it and add more.

I know that if I mess it up I could have some serious problems.
So I dont want to mess up.

    :)

    Thanks

If you're not going to overclock, then I'd say leave it, purely for simplicity.

Ideally though, you should clean it down and put some proper compound on there - it's a better job in the long run.

I'd recommend removing it and using AS5 if you have it. Regardless of if you are going to be overclocking, the higher quality TIM should lower your temps, thus lowering the fan speed (when you have automatic fan speed control enabled) thus lowering your system noise levels.

    Anything special for removing it?
I have those alcohol wipes. Would they be ok to use?

Use a lint free cloth, you can get them in an opticians.
You will also need some Isopropyl.
You can get it in a chemists. Very cheap.
Use them together to clean the heatsink. Dont use too much Isopropyl.
Apply a small bit then leave it for a little while then go back and clean it.
    Make sure it is spotless.

Could I use those alcohol wipes that are used for injections?
There is alcohol in them, and they are lint free too.

I've used wipes in the past without any problem.
