    Hi there,

Wondering what people think are the perks and pitfalls of home exchange. All experiences welcome. Is anyone considering doing a home exchange for Christmas? Thinking it could be a nice (and cheaper!) winter break! Thanks for your time...

I am the co-founder of Know Your Trade. We rate and review all home exchange clubs in addition to providing tips on the best way to do a home exchange.

My experience with home exchange has been great. The obvious financial benefits coupled with the opportunity to get to know neighborhoods, visit the local bars, grocery stores etc. are really something I never experienced as a hotel user.

Your idea of exchanging for Christmas is great, but one of the main downfalls of home exchange is that it takes a while to arrange an exchange. I would suggest that if you want to exchange at that time, you would need to start NOW. Again a good place to start the first step of choosing a club would be Know Your Trade. Another place to go to get good information is the Home Exchange Travels blog.

Good luck and don't hesitate to email if you have any questions.
