    I have an acer laptop at ´for the past 2 years. I have a problem at the moment and for quite a while in that the system will not allow mw to access the internet. Either dial-up or wireless broadband. The computer had been turned off for 4 months this summer and yesterday i turned it on again to go online and it did at first but it was so slow. I logged out and tried again and so far i cant get on-line at all. I have AVG antivirus and have scanned the computer and no threats have been found although it does highliht "kernel 32" to "change". I am no computer head so i have not got a clue. Could there be something preventing me getting on-line. I have also noticed some "glitches" like icons are slow to load and when i open some windows they close on their own. Like WTF??

    I would really appreciate any help/suggestions as i know nothing about hardware software etc....

    OK first tell me what you are using to connect to the internet.

    It it DSL / 3G card ?

    What router are you using.

    If you are using a route is DHCP setup,

    Start -> Run -> cmd -> ipconfig /all

    post the results.

    My initial guess would a firewall or some kind of security software.

    Do the usual virus/spyware scan and then see if you can access the internet.

    Hi

    As i cant access the internet i can't post log results. My initial thought was that it might be a firewall blocking me accessing the internet. I thought also it might be lime wire and i removed it but still no access. I haven't a clue what router im using or card. My AVG anti-virus was out of date when i turned it on. I accessed the internet and downloaded a new version. It then required i re-start the computer which i did but upon doing so i had no internet access and my anti-virus was still out of date.

    Iwill try and bring the results to work tommorrow with a USB and post them here??

    Thanks for the help.
