Does anyone know if I can get my application form witnessed at any Garda station or does it have to be my local one?

    Thanks

It's supposed to be your local one, but you can get it done in one close to where you work/study, depending on the garda at the desk.

I think any one will do, I had my last one done in Amsterdam. I live here and I went to a random police station in town, he said it was the weirdest thing he ever heard of but he signed and stamped it anyway.

Had mine done in Donnybrook (Dublin 4) garda station, i'm living in Clonskeagh (Dublin 14) and from Galway. No problems.

But a friend of mine also from Galway and living in Dublin went into a garda station in Dublin city centre and the garda said he couldn't sign the form as he didn't know my friend.

So, bit of a mixed bag. Give it a go and see if they will do it.

Thanks all. My dad managed to get through to the passport office eventually (I live abroad) and they said that any station can do it, once I have another form of ID as well. I doubt the gardai in my local station would have a clue who I was anyway!

Hopefully I won't have any problems as I have to get my passport renewed in a week while I'm home as it takes too long (4-6 weeks) to do it from here.
