I was just wondering if some students who have completed their INTRA work placement would give me some information. What was it like? Where did you work? What position did you have?

What course are you doing? There's going to be a big difference between say, a journalism placement and a computer engineering placement, so people can give better advice if we know what you're doing:)

My INTRA was ok. But bear in mind the work you'll be put doing on INTRA won't be that interesting. It'll mostly be the grunt work you'll be at! It won't usually be that hard, but it might be frequently boring

Now the flipside of that, is that you might get re-hired full time by your INTRA company. That's happened to me and I love the job now. Just finishing my fourth week! It's a different story when you're a colleague rather than just 'The Student'.

In did Fiontar(Business and Computing basically) in case you're wondering. I can't access Redbrick Chat from work though, which sucks a bit!

I disagree, some companies make use of their intra students, others don't bother. I did the same work as any of the other permanent developers in Enterprise Ireland and found it quite interesting. Several people I knew on (CA) Intra did the same.

Yeah some companies do make good use of students alright. I was used and abused for my Intra. Worked my ass off for the summer doing exactly what the other contractors or permanent staff done while getting paid a fraction of what they get. I think I'm going bald from that job it was that stressful :D

Others I know , done nothing all day. Or were stuck doing support roles which can be pretty lame. Revenue pays well, so jump on that if you want good pay!

I was there last year as well. Now the work wasn't great but the pay was especially for what they had me doing. As has been mentioned there are loads of students there also. Many of them from the north. The whole social aspect of the place is pretty good except if your doing shift work.

I did CA and absolutly loved my INTRA placement. I did have to move up to Donegal for six months but the work itself was extremely interesting. The company was Instinct Technology who do gaming middleware and as Mark said above, I did the same work as everyone else up there. Not only was it a great experience but it also helped me immensely when getting a job after college.

In terms of what you'll hear about INTRA it completely depends on the company you get into. If you want a good job then apply early, develop your interview skills and get a good one via the INTRA office. Alternatively source your own job that you think you'll enjoy and go for it.
