    20 pics
    are they 10*8 inch?

20 photos is generally what you get in a wedding album. You are probably still talking €1000+, might get it for cheaper (one of the lads or lasses here maybe?).

you dont need to spend €1000 euro. I would expect it to be the same here as in the UK, and we got the standard 30 photo package for around £500(which is the going rate unless you fall for the more expensive ones).

€450 seems quite cheap in comparison.

Theres a forum on boards at the bottom of the Social section - weddings or something or other. I expect them lot would have some good links/advice.

make sure you see some of the work before you hire the photographer.

    that equates to about €700

everyone on here does weddings at this stage :D

650 is still kinda cheap.. You wouldn't get a pro at that price anyway.

I'll echo what TelePaul said, see some examples before you sign any cheques

    any semi-pros on here ?

plenty of semi pros and a few pros.. Loads of amateurs :D

I'm sure by this time tomorrow you'll have it all sorted out, once some of the rest of the regulars spot this post later on. I'd quote you for it myself but I don't think I'd be able to get to Dublin for it

Very few that have experience doing weddings will supply the originals. Standard practice would be a web gallery or DVD slideshow that the couple can access to order additional prints from.

IMO it's more about protecting your 'good name' in the business than making money from reprints and enlargements. If you hand over a DVD full of RAW files to someone that doesn't know a tack about processing photos, inevitably they'll try their hand at processing, maybe make a balls of it yet think it looks brilliant. They'll print it, hang it on their wall and someone will see it some day, ask who took the photos and then they'll walk away thinking you're a rank amateur.

Maintain the quality control from pressing the shutter button right the way through to print.

it's just the last family wedding (7+ years ago) was all on film, it was a top notch photographer (don't know who) who had to be booked a year in advance. Afterwards he was charging way over the top to get some reprints done, extra 8x10/12 and then he was going to charge for "keeping" the negatives as well, other wise they would be dumped.

My memory from back then is a bit blurry, so no idea about what the prices were, plus back then I was a student

I can only speculate that any photographer that threatens to dump negatives is talking through his or her arse. It's just another way to scare an existing client into parting with more cash.

I can do it and supply originals on dvd for €500 without an album. If you pm me your address I can send the dvd slideshow from my last one or email address and I can send them on to you.

Any idea where to take it from there, e.g. are there firms that put albums together or can you buy your own and DIY?

Basically I can supply all the pictures on dvd and you can print them out either in a storybook or mount format. The storybook is printed and bound together but the mount has mounts in it that you fit the pictures into, various sizes available.

LOZ - the advise given to you by everybody above is good.

THis is a very big day & you really dont want to have the memories of it ruined by going for the "cheap" rather than the "good" option!

I was married just over 2 years ago & was lucky enough to get a FANTASTIC photographer ........ we still regularly look at our album! On the other hand I know a couple who never look at theirs because the content is crap!

If you get one of the guys from theis board then you will be pretty lucky but just make sure that you get what you want! Get good memories!

Would echo that above, this is one area that you can't afford to scrimp on. If you thought €450 was expensive I'll spare you the shock and tell you what I'd charge ;)

I can understand the sentiments voiced above, it is a very important day and a big decision to make. You have to examine the samples of work from each photographer and then decide, I wouldnt agree with the more you pay the better your photographer will be, I have seen established photographers who only do weddings turn out crap. (( Roen how much do you charge? )) :)
