I've been looking at previous threads on this and as far as I can see alot of people use their home insurance policy to cover their laptop.

I rent and will probably move soon so that doesnt seem great to me, plus the laptop is the only valuable worth insuring I will have.

Are there any laptop insurers in Ireland and who is best? Can I put my laptop on someone elses home insurance either, and is it covered outside of the home?

Maybe there should be a sticky for insurance?

    Any info will help,

    Thanks.

As renters our landlord requires us to carry insurance, which covers my laptop while in the residence for theft and fire, but not normal wear, accidental drops, or misuse. Coverage does not cover outside the residence, so be sure to check your policies fine print. Also check if the insurance covers a new replacement or something less (appraised value at the time of loss).

When purchased it had a one year warranty, which I extended through the manufacturer (Toshiba) for another 3 years for only $134 USD to cover defects. I also found that after about 2 years of use, they will replace your battery and power cord for free, including shipping.
