Im trying to find the regulations for specific buildings, ie. Hostel/Nursing home. Are there such regulations/guidelines for these specific buildings/developments or do you just design them in adherence to a general set of guidelines/regulations for commercial developments in general.

For example, I thought i heard someone saying that a new nursing home would have to have a lift/escalator in its design so as to help old people up to above storeys. Is this tru out of interest, and also where would I find other such information/criteria in relation a nursing home or ther specific building.

    Thanks in advance.

The HSE will be involved. We just did an extension to one in the office and the HSE went so far as to look for a spec for the remote control for the automated velux windows. I kid you not.

I've never done anything related to a Hostel / Nursing Home, But I would presume Part M of the building regulations would be of very important.

There's also book called 'Buildings for Everyone: Acces and use for all the citizens', which I would recommend consulting. It's issued by the NRB (National Rehabilitation Board). It's very comprehensive and goes through everything required to make a building fully accessible. It goes through specific building types but I don't think Hospitals or Nursing Homes is one of the categories. Also most things are related back to BS's.

    Hope this helps.
