    Hey folks,
Took a wee wander down to New Lanark (about an hour away from Glasgow) yesterday and took a few shots.
The weather was pretty miserable but theres a few that i managed to salvage from the day.
Anyway, im looking for any suggestions you fancy giving me, be they good bad or indifferent, especially in terms of proccessing them as i seem to be going overboard with a lot of it these days and completely killing the shot.

Completely cold! Just in terms of them being generally nondescript images...or is there something more sinister here? :o

Before I garner a reputation for being very nasty...

Shot 1 would be very nice except for the white sky. Was it really that white, or are there some cloud formations you could bring out?

Shot 2: nice depth of field on this

Shot 3: like the saturation on this although greenery doesn't usually do it for me.

Shot 4: I like the bnw conversion here although I feel that you could probably look at bring out some more of the detail in the wall on the right hand side

first shot is taken from too far away. the light is not good, and the subject is too small. there's nothing to hold the interest.
shot #2 is an interesting viewpoint, with good light and good use of depth of field.

Cheers Callina....i never thought you were nasty! :D

the sky was horrible yesterday....had that horrible constant drizzle of rain all day, and the shot was taken from a fair height up the hill so i doubt theres much i can get out of it.
Unfortunately i couldnt crop any closer to the falls without making it look a little imbalanced.

Will try and work on the fourth one a little more, i reckon your right TBH, but as i said im struggling to reign in my overuse (abuse) of PS sliders and values so i reckon i may have overcompensated here.

    Thanks for the advice!

Nah i see what your getting at...i was attempting to show the scope and size of the falls and the area around it, but as you say the conditions werent exactly helpful.
    Cheers

from a non C&C point of view, the last one there Johnny takes me back to feckin primary school.... you know those schools in Glasgow dont you? *shudder* so thanks for that image...

I like the last image actually as it appeals to my sense of regularity and shadow. Beyond that though, im not much use to you. Nice to see you getting out and about back home though.

2, 3 do it for me.

I love the tones in 3, but reckon you could have been a little lighter-handed on the vignette. The last one could definitely benefit from more detail in the shadows - logs definitely my favourite of the two though.

Thanks everyone....meant to say Calina, the 4th one istn actually BW, ive just desaturated it to the point where its almost there, trying to get across the idea that Odonnell mentioned, that grey washed out school days idea :o

I really like the one of the looms - I could see it being used in a guide book or catalogue or something. Very well finished, maybe a bit heavy on the shadows but that's a personal taste thing.

Lovely sumptous greens in the foliage shots but that white sky is letting you down :( The pile of logs has a nice atmosphere, but I'm not sure where you're going with it - would be different if you focused on one little plant, or shapes and lines, or something.

The last one works in that way you're talking about - but the compsoition isn;t sitting right for me. The window is very close to the left of the frame and would maybe work betterw ith a bit more space, and the cut off window at the top and the extra space above the arch isn't adding anything. You could even go heavier on the shadows in that one, too.

I like where you're going with your stuff, you seem to be leaping ahead on that learning curve. Everyone goes through the heavy handed processing phase but I wouldn't say you're pushing it very far, really. That's why we have raw files to go back to :D
