can a bid be cancelled

i have bid for an item on ebay that is going to end on thursday.i think i will win the auction (not much activity and have a good max bid).the problem is my wife went off on sunday shopping and bought more or less the same item .can i cancel my bid or where do i stand?

I think you'll have to contact the seller on this one and maybe they will allow you to retract the bid.

Sometimes you can retract the bid on the auction page. Check if there is an option there. Retractions are normally only allowed up until 24 hours before the auction ends so don't waste any time.

it would be best to contact the seller and come to some sort of arrangement as retracting bids can become messy and the show up on your ebay profile which wont be good for future auctions that you enter.

thanks for the replys i contacted the seller and he agreed to stop my bid there was about 36hrs left he didn seem to mind
