    Hey Guys,

Anyone help me with an issue im having. Is there anyway of getting the raw data that comes from shannon or dublin or any other weather stations around the country?

I would need the data for a project im working on.How do sites lik weather.com and others get the live data from the weather stations and is it freely available?

    Any help would be fantastic

    http://dolanbaker.info/weather/wx.htm

He has raw data from some of the stations from around the country.
But there is a thing called a mesomap and skymet which gives you raw data from most stations both synoptic and personal which i be looking into in the near future at a cost to me though.

Other than that i dont think there is one?

    thanks snowbie

    http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/EINN.html

This link here has the following data strand,

    EINN 251430Z 35012KT 9999 FEW023 15/06 Q1023 NOSIG

Thtas what id be looking for. id need to be able to pluck that out and decipher it for an it project. I want to build an application that will take this raw data and represent it in grapical form.

Can anyone tell me what order the data is in above? and how would i read it?
id imagine EINN is the airport name, but after that im lost

Ah right i understand you now you need the airport TAF or Metar to decode it in on a map or something similar?.
Thats exactly what the mesomap does.

But here look at the wiki it explains it better.

yes thats it snowbie, i found this ftp server,

    ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/data/observations/metar/stations/

which has all the latest metars from around the world, i think its exactly what i need,

Looking at shannons file it reads

    2007/09/25 15:00
    EINN 251500Z 35013KT 9999 FEW023 BKN200 15/06 Q1023 NOSIG

it's just a case of figuring out what all these blocks of code stand for.

    EINN is the airport id
    251500Z=date and valid form 1500
35013KT is wind direction and speed in knots.350 degrees is NNW at 13KTs
9999 i think is visibility greater than 10km
FEW023 Few clouds at 2300 feet
    BKN200 clouds broken at 20000
    15/06 valid from 15/06Z i think
    Q1023 is the atmospheric pressure
    NOSIG is no change

Most i think are correct,Longfield uses the TAF's sometime. On the couple im not sure on he will probably know.

EDIT:Ah the lads got there before me,Phew
