    Hi,

If I wanted some liver tests done, would I have to go to a GP (and pay the consultation fee on top of the tests), or can I go directly to a lab?

And, are any tests covered by VHI Plan B? How much would they cost?

    Cheers

You'll have to get your GP to take the blood to send to the lab, or he might send you to the hospital phlebotomist to take the blood. Either way you have to be nice to your GP.

Basic liver function tests are often run as standard by your gp though that depends on your gp sometimes and the hospital lab they refer their tests to.

    Thanks

How much would these normally cost? Is VHI Plan B Excess covering any, or only the hospital stay...

there's no hospital stay for a blood test. your gp probably wouldnt charge you antying extra than the consulation to send off bloods. they're routine tests like.

was there a more specific test you watned info on?

Check out www.yorktest.com. They have a liver function test which they told me will be available here before the end of the year. You basically provide their lab with a blood sample, they analyze it then send you the results. It costs around 95GBP.

They have an Irish site also - www.yorktest.ie.
