Good to see that they're getting closer to Nokia's RRP. Funny, I met an O2 guy who tried to tell me it was €1000 unsubsidised. I'll be in Far East in 3 weeks... probably €400 there at this stage, it was €550 over there when it was €750-800 here. Probably means they are running down the stock to get ready for the new 8GB one for Christmas.

That's what O2 charge for it unsubsidised and I'm pretty sure Vodafone charge near that too. They're not into selling unsubsidised phones.

They want contracts - you'll never get sim free prices as competitive in Vodafone/O2/Meteor as you would online.

Why would you buy a phone that is not covered under warranty when you get home? Why don't you look on ebay?

Probably won't get one at all. I just like to price watch! Yes, O2 especially are good value at the mo, Vodafone is a rip-off as ever... €409 for an upgrade with another years contract? If I can get it sim free for 400 inc 10% vat and vendor profit in Asia then that puts the wholesale price at around €300.

Its easy for a mobile operator to fool people into thinking that they are providing a hefty subsidy when it market prices for sim free phones are terribly more expensive. Sim free volumes are low in Europe/America coz most have contracts. Low volume = high cost. In SE Asia most phones are sold sim free and at a far lower price coz they sell in far greater numbers. Contracts don't seem too popular over there because the phone operators don't want to actually subsidize the price.

As I said one O2 guy tried to tell me that O2 were offering €700 subsidy on one until I pointed him to the real price. And did he blush! Maybe €100...

It is possible to get a Vodafone Ready to Go N95 that is SIM FREE - just make sure it is before you buy. Cost €599 with 80 euro vodafone credit (10 a month for 8 months).

That's what I did and at least I know I have a guarantee around the corner. But nice to see Expansys at a good price.

Has anyone bought a N95 from ebay sim free? Does it work fine with all 3G settings on vodafone/O2 or is anything missing
Can you get the specific vodsfone/o2 homepage on a sim free phone

Just buy off a reputable seller. If you can collect and inspect prior to payment all the better. If you have to use paypal, use your credit card so if anything is amiss, you can do a chargeback.

You can get 3, Meteor, Vodafone, O2, etc homepages and internet access on a sim free okay.
