Turned on the PSP on the bus into college today and got a message saying that the memory card is unreadable and I should format it. I took it out cleaned it but couldn't get it to work so had to format it wiping off all my save games, including 7 hours worth of Jeanne D'arc, all my emulators and roms, music and my backed up college work. Anyone else had this problem? Just wondering because I'm hoping I don't have a dud memory card and it happens again especially when I'm using it to back up important college work. Shoddy Sony build quality strikes again  I take care of my PSP and the memory card never leaves the PSP. It wasn't as if I was messing around with it either, it was grand the day before when I was just using it to listen to music.

Thats a real pain in the **s!! Have you checked to see if the stick is actually real? Go to the music or video menu, highlight the memstick and press triangle. Then press information. If it says "magicgate-supported" then its real. If it says "magicgate - unknown" then its fake!!

Also, you could try formatting in FAT16 instead of FAT32. You can do that in windows by right-clicking and choosing format...

It's real all right, it's the 1 gig card I got in the PSP giga pack when I bought it.

Probably too late now, but you should have connected the memory stick to a PC first to see if it could be read, copied your game saves and other stuff over, then formatted the card and put your saves back on...

Pro Duo sticks come with an adapter that any memory card reader should be able to read. Pro Duo's are also used in cameras and therefore have to be able to connect to a PC...

They only work with Sony cameras and I don't have one that takes pro duo. Also the card you get in the PSP giga pack doesn't come with an adapter for the PC since you should be able to read it by connecting your PC up. This of course doesn't work when your PSP is acting the arse like what happened to me.

I got a cheapo combined memory card reader/usb hub and it reads pro duo cards without any issues... Tis a bit too late for these kind of suggestions though:(
