My Microcube bit the dust - replacement?

My Microcube hurled itself off the top of my Epi Valve Jnr and landed on its knobs. FYI the pots on a Microcube are only like little plastic trim pots connected to metal shafts that the knobs go on to. Trust me, they cannot withstand any kind of impact.

Anyway, I really liked the 'Cube. I could get another one for €99 from thomann, but, since I've already had a Cube, I'm inclined to try something different. What do you think of these choices:-

    1) Get another Cube. €99.
    2) Line 6 Spider III. €99 Good value on the face of it

    3) Vox DA5. €99 Seems like a direct MicroCube competitor

    4) Orange Crush 15R €114 Not many "features" but that could be a good thing.

    5) Something else. I definitely do not need anything louder than a 'Cube. I'm looking for good value (yes - I'm the last of the big spenders :p ), good sound at home level (ie quiet level - I think that rules out tubes) and I suppose a few bells and whistles wouldn't go amiss. I like classic rock sounds and I mainly used the Vox and Marshall models on the 'cube. TBH I only really ever used the reverb effect on the 'Cube. I never used battery power

Any thoughts or suggestions will be welcome.

I'd love to hear a review of that Line 6, if you decide to go that way.

The Orange would do what you're looking for nicely methinks.

If there's not many features on the Orange amp then what are all those knobs for? *curious*

I always knew you had a knob curiosity, John...

Actually that's true (in a non-sexual sense), I love playing my effects pedals without the guitar plugged in.

    Here's another option:-

    Crate Profiler 5

Seems to be like a stereo MicroCube with USB connectivity. Not available in Europe yet?

I tried one of those in a shop today and it certainly wasn't bad. It sounded OK as far as I could tell in the noisy shop and has similar models and effects to the Cube. Nice large speaker. I'm seriously thinking of getting one but I want to try out a Fender GDEC Junior first which has built-in backing tracks.

what is it about putting curves into something that makes it more attractive? that crate looks deadly.. you reckon the twin speakers makes much of a difference?

Who knows?... especially considering they're very small and close together. The theory is that the chorus and delay can be in stereo which can sound great (on some amps). Also the USB output means you can record direct to your PC. It comes bundled with some recording software. Not availabe in Europe yet though.

I'd be tempted by this and a pair of headphones.

Looks small enough to threw into a gig bag too so if you're bored in work, nip out to the car, get the guitar from the boot and play for an hour :D Not that I'd ever do that... ;)

I was thinking of this aswell. But I thinking more of the Microcube as sometimes you don't want to use earphones, and jam quietly with a mate.

Man, that USB direct-to-disk hookup on the Crate really has me going.
Seems to me that would be the purest signal for recording in Cakewalk/Sonar/etc., if you're going to use the VST plug-ins instead of pre-processing your signal!

    :)

If you were looking at headphone practice gizmos, I'd go for one of the Korg Pandoras over the Pocket Pod.

The metronome, drum/bass patterns and 30 second looper/trainer are worth the extra 50 quid alone.
