TG4's Glas Vegas has black face minstrels??

Did I anyone else see the ad on TG4, its new irish language talent show I think...

but blink and you'll miss it clip of a guy with one of those setups where he stands in the middle of a row of 5 puppets and they dance along as as he moves the sticks, it usually the village people, but this guy has minstrels/gollywogs and he was done up in black face aswell?

how did they let this guy on, its such bad taste, old fashioned, cringe inducing, i think the black and white minstrels show continued into the early eighties on uk tv but that was just embarrassing.

its simply unnecessary.

The whole show is a cringefest. I mean, toe-curlingly bad, so bad it hurts. Unbelievably bad. I cannot stress how awful it is. It is *almost* so bad it is good, but falls just thisside of woeful. I cannot believe I watched it. It was trainwreck TV. A stunning period of jaw-droppingly bad TV. Worse than any home produced TV. The worst of YouTube is better.

agree and eoghan harris hasnt exactly covered himself in glory by doing this gig
i thought the guy who won the other night was quite good though and the african american james brown wanabe was pretty cool

it was a freak show for the most part though

TG4 gets away with heaps of junk, I suspect the critcs hardly watch it cos well, its in Irish while they can plead lack of money and 'sure its so hard to find talent with the language skills so you'll have to make allowences'. etc

i thought tg4 had extraordinary well to avoid being simply a backward county bumpkin station, then glas vegas and the black face minstrels came along

I emailed tg4 them about acouple of things

I asked

did I really see black face minstrels and puppets on an ad for glas vegas,

they said

You did but you wont any more. One of the “acts” had blacked up as one of the Jackson 5 and got put into a promo by mistake.


hehe, did anyone see dan from dan and becs blacking up as ike turner! now that was funny cos it was satire, the glas vegas guy looked too much like a minstrel... which is grossly bad taste. ah well its gone

There wasn't one word mentioned about the blacking up of white people on Celebrity Big Brother when they danced a Jackson 5 number in front of Jermaine Jackson.

He looked a bit put out at the end of it though.

yeah so I wasn't suspecting the act to be onuI thought it be cut as yer tg4 man said, but flicking around on Sunday I just happened to come across the programme again and who was it on but this fat idiot doing his crappy act with the poles and dummies dress up and him on black face, now he was doing it to jackson 5 song and was supposed to be them, but guy said it himself i twas blackface minstrels, 'they've had been around for about 20yrs...' more like 30, and more thirty years out of date

yes and it was twenty years out of date, the three judges didn't say very much just harris did say it was out of date, the third judge loved it???

the programmer guy who replied to me saying it would be cut out is clueless idiot, why did he say that if it wasn't going to be.

Not sure why people should take offence at this. Presumably Ali G should be banned in future from tv since it is a white man pretending to be someone of another race. Or would you allow him because he is sophisticated and educated enough that his act can get through the PC police? As long as the act wasn't being done with any racist intent (and there was absolutely none) then TG4 had absolutely no reason to cut it from the broadcast show.

I saw the actual show when he was on, never laughed so much my entire life. I make sure never to miss glas vegas on sunday nights now.
