Does anyone who is familiar with the ASR backup feature built into Windows XP Professional know if it backs-up everything including all installed programs & your Desktop icons?

i would guess not, most backup programs only back up your documents folder and email.

Well, in the case of the ASR Backup built into XP Pro(only) I don't believe it just backs up your documents! The ASR stands for "Automated System Recovery" & the backup file in my case is over 7GB so it's definitely more then documents.

I was hoping that someone with experience could confirm if it actually backs up your entire system something similar to Ghost.

Thanks for your input anyway matt-dublin.

    ah yes, sorry.
no asr doesn't back up your documents.

theoretically it doesn't look at your documents folders at all. it backs up important system files every now and again and also every time you install something.

I think it saves desktop information as well.

The idea behind it is so that if you install something that messes up your pc you should be able to boot into safe mode and restore your pc to an earlier restore point.

has nothing to do with documents at all
