Hi All, have invite for event tomorrow night and invite specifies "Loungewear" for men and cocktail dresses for women. Not sure about the Loungewear thing, and short of turning up like Hugh Hefner in a smoking jacket, any advice on what to wear would be welcome.

Have my own tux, so it not a problem if i need to wear one, or is it just a casual suit without a tie???

    All responses welcome...

    Thanks guys...

edit: oh and considering some of the stuff you find on the web (searching under loungewear for men) is not something you'd get into this venue with, i'm kinda at a loss as to what to wear.

Are you sure it said loungewear? That doesn't really make sense.

Yeah, when I first read the title I thought you were looking for pyjamas or comfy clothing to just laze around the house in. That's what I always considered loungewear to be :o

jeez invites are becoming ridiculous! How is anyone meant to know what to wear if they keep making up silly labels for clothing - I would go for a smart suit and tie (then you can remove the tie if needs be but I would say as the girls are expected to wear cocktail dresses it is formal). And if they were expecting a tux they would have put black tie. You describtion of hugh heffner tho in the smoking jacket might be a good look :D All you need then is your playmate bunny on your arm to complete the look!

My pyjamas say loungewear. I don't suggest you wear pyjamas. Particularly mine.

Nearly as bad a term as "smart casual". Could you be any more vague?!

Loungewear I guess is casual. Dress shirt and pants I'd guess.

Casual it is then, nice jeans, a dressy (but not too) shirt and jacket

But why would they make the girls dress up and let the guys dress casual???

Loungewear for men basically means a suit with no tie!
Do NOT wear jeans! I think the clue here is that the girls have to wear cocktail dresses!

a velvet or a moleskin jacket, and a shirt with cufflinks would be swish. Keep it simple with dark coloured trousers, a shirt, and a nice pair of shoes. Nice that the party hosts are trying to soup things up, but not imposing full evening-wear on the chaps invited.
