Berlin. Best city I've been to for travelling alone.

Timmy, I don't think you tell us enough about what sort of things you like.

To me, Christmas markets and a few beers means central Europe. Beyond that, what do you want -- fine art, music, night-clubs, scenery, a chance to meet people, historic places, great food?

Not exactly answering your question, but seen as the city and the airline have been mentioned

I'm flying to Berlin 11th Dec, 26.00e return

Found what seems a good hotel for 60.00e too (but am now kipping in some ones apartment instead)

something about Berlin, and winter , and leather gloves - hope it lives up to my erm....fantasies

Yep, add me to the Berlin list. I was there for 4 days on my own over the summer and it was great, you should get everything you're looking for there. And Ryanair and Aer Lingus fly into the same airport (Schonefeld), which has an extremely reliable bus service so compare both before you book (if you do). The difference was €100 return in August

If you're travelling on your own, a country where you have some familiarity with the language is usually a good idea - even if it's only Leaving Cert level, it makes a difference.

I'm glad to hear Berlin being mentioned. I'm going there on my own for New Year's!

I'd highly recommend going to Tenerife with Aer Lingus. They have a 3 or 4 flights a week. I went on my own last year for 9 days and I stayed in the H10 La Nina in Costa Adeje. It worked out very cheap.
I know there are no markets but if you are thinking about present buying there is always all the lovely duty-free booze, fags, perfume & beauth products to be bought there ....just as long as you get it back through customs of course.

Yeah, I know it sounds really strange....but I'm just not a fan of New Year, especially in Dublin. And I have no problem travelling by myself. I'm sure I won't be the only one in this situation and there'll be others in the hostel to celebrate with. Hopefully with the million or so people on the streets.
