    Hi,

    I am considering returning to the world of IT contracting from the safe world of the full-time worker and am looking for some advice on rates from people who are involved in the industry.

    I have over 12 years development experience, so I would consider myself to be senior.

    I plan to approach a number of contacts I have in Dublin to offer my services.
    I am just not sure what rates people are quoting. I am hoping to avoid the agency route as the rate they are quoting me seem a bit low and I suspect they are being greedy. I have been told 380 per day by agencies, however some colleagues seem to indicate that the agency could be charging the company 500 a day.

    Could this be true?

    Any previous experience is greatly welcomed.

    regards
    stmochtas

    Firstly depends on the length of the contract...

    12 month ~ 250->290 per day if you go through an agency, higher if its direct.

    6 month 330-> 375

    3 month 350 +

    All based on a 20 day working month

    Do you have MCPDs, MCTS, MCSD etc they tend to add a bit of value to the rates..

    Another dependcy is demand! Also the industry you are going into. A smaller company will not be able to afford the bigger rates.

    I have seen 50/60E per hour for top end devs doing work for bigger financial houses and that was on a 12 month contract basis..
