Anyone watch this last night? One of the best cards I've seen and some really big upsets.

Couple of great fights, couple of not so great fights,
All in all a good event but not the best they've had by far!

Probably not one of their best, but definately one of the best I've seen ;)

Is the Ice Man finished now I wonder? The kicks he received from Jardine were savage. Did you see the mark they left

Have to say, I am a bit disappointed with the PRIDE fighters, I was looking forward to seeing Shogun. I can only assume he had an off night, or had problems adjusting to the UFC rules. That said, Forest Griffin really raised his game and deserved the win.

And great to Fitch beat Diego. I think we may see this match up again in a year or two.

forrest griffin gave the performance of the night in my opinion. id say his arms must have been dead after the fight. he was very lucky that gash didnt bleed more or could've quite easily led to a stoppage.

was disappointed with the main event. maybe ive been blinded by the early stoppages in his other fights but chuck was so one dimensional last nite it actually got tough to watch as the time ticked down to the inevitable decision loss. he wont be headin to the gym this morning, prob lucky if he can walk (or breathe for that matter)

    Some random thoughts.

Lidell hasnt really progessed as a fighter since Randy-Chuck II. He was clearly unable to defend against the leg kicks. Jardine's style is so awkward, but it seems to work.

Hat off to Forrest, he brought the game plan that he needed to win the fight. I was expecting more from Rua,he seemed uncomfortable in the cage,he seemed a little lost when Forrest wouldnt open his guard.I was surprised he didnt move him over to the fence, posture up and start throwing bombs.

The other fights went as expected, the overstacked welterweight division has claimed another victim, with Sanchez likely yo drop to lightweight. Surprised Sanchez didnt try and stay standing,Fitch's striking is probably his weakness, Sanchez burned alot of energy in the clinch, with little to show for it.

I think its a case of survive being dropped by chuck and still keep up a workrate ie striking with different weapons as Jardine was, he won the fight because he used more weapons than chuck thats all!!

I really enjoyed the card last night, there were some great fights
I think shogun needs to work on his fitness he looked wrecked from the 2nd minute of the 2nd round on, however this could be down to lack of practice it must be a while since he last fought and he is only going to get better.
Forrest was really good and this will help him get closer to a title fight, he is so entertaining its brilliant it almost looks as if he enjoys drinking his own blood he smiled at shogun after he got that hella nasty cut

Liddell has a big hill to climb to get back in title contention now there are alot of quality fighters ahead of him on pecking order but he will be back.
Fair play to Jrdine he stuck to his gameplan and deservedly won, I wonder who he will get next ?

This has definately been the year of shocks in ufc, the bookies must be cleaning up !

Some very good fights, I loved the Griffin vs Tavares fight. Very exciting

Forrest did really well. I didn't give him a chance, but he proved me wrong. I didn't believe Randy's prediction before the fight that Forrest would win all three rounds, he obviously trained very well for Shogun

It's been a while since someone just stood with Chuck. Usually his opponents try to take him down, which leads to Chuck standing back up and probably demoralising his opponents. Jardine just got more and more confident as he took some of Chuck's punches and then managed to keep connecting with his own. You could just see the dollar signs going up in smoke before Wanderlei's eyes after the decision, his face told the whole story. Chuck said that he's going to sit back and consider whether he'll fight again

So who's the light-heavyweight no. 1 contender?! Houston Alexander beat Jardine, who beat Forrest (and Chuck), who beat Shogun, who beat Rampage! It's probably a little early to put Alexander in a title fight, I see Forrest getting the shot since he's more popular than Jardine

I just read on the MMAWeekly forum that Shogun suffered a cerebral hematoma during his fight and apparently it's pretty serious. Haven't been able to find any confirmation anywhere, so take it for what it's worth: http://forums.mmaweekly.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=28601&posts=10&start=1. If it's true then I hope he gets through it

He won the fight because he did more damage to Chuck

Apart from leg kicks and a couple of body shots, it was his use of weapons that swayed the judges in my opinion not damage to chuck.

I started watching this last night, only to have the TV confiscated by my parents - who wanted to watch Miss Marple.

Upset - I checked the results, then I got to see the end of Forrest Griffin's match. Forrest is just cool.

Liddell-Jardine: I know I'm not the expert on striking but can you imagine boxing fans/boxers watching that. It looked really chaotic and sloppy. I know this is a product of them both having unorthodox styles but it just looked weird.

Chuck's still really popular so I doubt he'll get dropped. A Chuck-Forrest match would be a draw (plus providing Forrest an opportunity to avenge his master). Also you could have Chuck-Tito again.

BTW, i predicted Chuck to win, which is why he lost

Horrible if true. Hope he'll be ok :(

I cant find any reputable source backing up the Shogun cerebral heamotoma.
    Am hoping its not true.

If I had known Colm was backing liddel,I would have bet the house on Jardine.

You could also throw Evans and Ortiz in the mix there. I think there'll have to be one or two more fights to decide a contender.

Who will they Put in With Wanderlei now? Will they start him off with Jackson, seeing as he has beat him a couple of times?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 729 ✭✭✭Kazooie

    And Machida as well.

I was really pleased for Forrest. He has to be the most popular fighter around right now. Never gives up and always looks like he's enjoying himself.

That said I was dissapointed with Shogun. He is only young though and no doubt he'll be back.

Great show. I was surprised at Rua gassing. Granted they cut a hell of a pace but he's been in some similar, longer fights like with Rogerio Nogueira and he just kept going and going. Maybe Forrests size wore him down. Or you can argue that when the rules change, so does the game.

Here's how I'd book it from a ppv business perspective:

Forrest vs Rampage for the title. Now's the time to pull the trigger on that 1 and you could do it on their December 30th show.
Silva vs Jardine (winner getting the next title shot)
Shogun vs Lidell (winner faces the winner of Ortiz/Evans who would then be next in line for a shot, assuming Lidell doesn't retire).
Houston vs Machida (winner faces the loser of Ortiz/Evans, loser faces the winner of Hamill/Bisping).

Ive heard that rumour about Shoguns hematoma floatin around a few of the sites but no confirmation.

Jardine vs Chuck was the sloppiest looking thing Ive ever seen. A good boxer would have put Jardine away easily, he has absolutely no headmovement. Chuck should be disappoitned with himself although his cornerman Hackelman really is an idiot ("Dont check the leg kicks")

Not before Jardine would kick the good boxers leg clean off! :D

I'm surprised Chuck didn't train to counter kicks to the leg - it's a key part of Jardine's style.

Now is the time to capitalise on the popularity of Griffin and Jackson. That ppv would make big money.

Liddell isn't finished but his stock has decreased in value. They could still give him the Wand fight though (maybe on the undercard for Griffin and Jackson) and play up Wand's potential disadvantage under the UFC's rules.

Shogun gassing was disappointing. I think it was clear from the second round on that Griffin had his number on Saturday. I have to assume he took Griffin lightly and didn't train hard enough (not to take anything away from Griffin but there's no excuse for gassing in the second round at that level).

I don't know where I put Jardine right about now though.

Griffin did very well, was thinking that Shogun was goin to have a easy fight! Al Pride fighers have done poor in the first UFC fight.

As for my boy Chuck, no idea, its not looking good, maybe everyone has got his number!

Jardine and Silva in Dec.......MY GOD!

I noticed this was on Bravo last night and decided to give it a look. I thought it was very enjoyable and I didn't dislike any of the fights. I was glad to see Liddell get humbled by Jardine as he was way too cocky for my liking. How did one of the judges give the fight to Liddell though? It would have been disgraceful had Jardine lost.

PS I noticed Ultimate Fighter is on Bravo tonight at 10. Is this the new series? If so I might give it a look.

It is the 5th series premiere starting tonight. The quality of fighters aren't great in terms of experience but its still a fun show to watch if you like a little drama thrown into your MMA.

Don't mean to nitpick, but I'm pretty sure it's the 6th.

Yeah I thought it was a fun show alright. I was impressed. I reckon I'll check it out next week too.

I really dont like Hughes, but I think Serra is coming off as a jerk too.
Hughes said it best when he had a napoleon complex going or is he playing it up for tv or trying to intimidate hughes?
