Rewiring, fusing and some TLC

Since the gearboxes in the Unicorn AKSU's are minus fuses and the wire insulation is cheap crap, I'll have to rewire them before they go out to a game. Does anyone have any advice on a good place to buy the parts I'll need.

18 gauge wire (pre-tinned if possible)
Fuse holder (I was thinking of going with a 20Amp Automotive but the standard electronic fuse holders will do if I can't sorce the Auto ones. Maplin sell the Auto fuse but don't seem to stock the mounts)
    Cable ties and gun.

    Cheers

Radionics have a great selection, the only problem is they sell in wholesale amounts, usually a minimum of 10 of each item. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Could try somewhere like Halfords if you are looking for auto stuff like that. Or perhaps not. Wouldn't be sure what exactly they have in stock but last time I was up there they seemed to have everything.

try maplin or peats for the wiring and such i guess, just orderd a 30mtr roll of 20 gauge (i think) wire for myself from radionics, that's the smallest roll i could find so i just ordered white and im going to figure out some way of marking it so i can differentiate + and -

kd, only ever did this with speaker wire but the insulation should be the same..get a high quality permanent marker. it eventually leeches into the insulation becoming quite parmanent...or dare i mention the dreaded label at every connector, again ala speaker cable..

the only final tip and in classic irish terms, there is permanent markers and permanent markers...just make sure you get a PERMANENT marker...LOL

a good quality one rather then the mistaken white board markers which are not permanent, just a complete pain in the tits...

Maplins might be ur best bet.

i dont think speaker wire would be up to it, unless you get good stuff which will set you back about 2 or 3 quid a meter.simply not designed to carry much current,
As above, maplins or radionics, but any car audio place will have it, and suitable connectors and fuses.fuse holders

sorry skate, i just reread my post...i meant i only used the permanent marker on speaker wire to identify positive from negative when putting speakers in, not putting speaker wire in an aeg...but good clarification.

All those parts are available in Maplin (I used to work there). The standard fuse is usually a glass 31mm (1.25") 15A fastblow fuse. I've swapped in 10A fuses without any hassle on numerous occasions.
The 20guage wire is available from Maplin again in 1m jiffy bags and in rolls. I think you'll have to go to the Blanch store to get the wire though. Jervis St is gone to hell. Also, you're better looking through the catalog yourself. The staff in those two stores are generally unable to tell the difference between 4guage and 40 guage wire.

If you do want to use an automotive fuse they do have holders for them but they're bulky so unless you have the room to spare I wouldn't advise it. It doesn't give you any increased response time or offer any advantages over regular glass fuses.
