i know a few people doing it, they say it's hard and full of maths. But it's extremely employable, dont let the points of the course make your decission

Ucd actuary is the best do it we earn more money than any off the others if ur smart enough do it ...one guy switched from galway this year said it was useless degree with no recognition and there are only two exemptions and you can get eight in ucd.

If you are doing actuary,I would presume you would the brains to be able to type properly without using text speak.

I'd only put it down if you have strong maths skills and are genuinely interested. When I was in college, science had an incredibly high dropout rate because people chose it for the low points, then weren't suited for the work. This could be the same, but more so.

I'm doing a financial maths postgrad at the moment, and finding it really interesting. The maths is focused on probability (but not really the type you do at LC level, which is actually closer to combinatorics). You'll probably spend the first year studying calculus and linear algebra (read matrices).

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Edit: I read over the list of modules there. I don't know much about the economics courses, but some of the later maths courses will be genuinely tough. Metric spaces and topology will be abstract as hell, and probably pretty boring if you don't like maths. I would say only pick this course if you're genuinely interested.

Edit 2: Just noticed the original post was in september of last year. D'oh!

There is no modular choice whatsoever and you have to do 12 exams each year on ridiculous subjects like algorithms (learning off silly codes without them making much sense) and metric spaces (which is basically trying to memorise massive proofs of mathematical theorems that you will forget 5 mins after you've written them down).

The fact that the points are so low is because nobody is doing it. It is a very difficult degree.

Perhaps you chose the wrong course.

You really shouldn't just memorise big proofs if you're studying maths. You should aim to understand everything. That way you'll be able to prove stuff instinctively.
