    Hi Guys,

I need your advise on to select the best antenna for rte1,rte2 & tv3 terrestrial reception in Limerick(Fr.Russell Road).

I have bought the "Megaboost Digital TV Aerial Kit" from Maplin but it seems to be UHF only.
    http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ITAG=SPEC&ModuleNo=47022&doy=23m9#spec

I put this antenna in my attic on north side facing, and I have got all these channels. but the reception seems to be not very good. very small dots observed.

Any better terrestrial antenna (attic installation)to get very good reception,?
Passive/active? Capable of Future DTT reception?

    Thanks
    Jasin.

'I have bought the "Megaboost Digital TV Aerial Kit" from Maplin but it seems to be UHF only.'

You should be tuning in to Woodcock Hill where all four channels are on UHF
    RTE1 Ch39
    RTE2 Ch42
    TV3 Ch45
    TG4 Ch49

If you carried out an auto tune god only knows what channels are tuned in. You may have Maghera, possibly Mullaghanish which are both VHF and UHF.

Putting your aerial in the attic will lead to a dramatic signal loss.
I would never approve of an attic installation but you may have no alternative.
I always recommend the Quad X aerial. On the Maplin web page you gave, an example is item 2 on the upper right hand side. A good quality high gain aerial will cost €60 to €70.

I have done a couple of Aerial Installs on the father russell rd but most of them had to be done outside the house, due to the lowness of the road and adjacent houses. However if you want to use an aerial in the attic you will probably need a masthead amplifier and Power supply to boost the signal.

It sounds like the problem is the builtin amp on the aerial pickimng up interference. The attic is better than set top. Try an unamplified aerial.

You do want UHF only. VHF is poor so don't tune in the Maghera and Mullaganish VHF RTE as these are equally poor in most of Limerick.

Point the aerial at Woodcock hill mast.

Try bringing a portable tv fed by this aerial up to the attic with you and watch the picture as you move about aerial to optimise reception.

try different locations in attic. Also try tilting the front of the aerial upwards slightly, it may make a difference

you probably know this already, but just in case, the rods of the aerial should be horizontal, not vertical, where you are
