took a few more in St. Michaels estate , Inchicore , although i'm learning a lot using only the 50 , still not fully happy with it, i think i'm going to have to splash out on the 18 - 200 to improve overall quality , anyway this is my fav :-

Just spent 43 minutes looking at your flickr page and I'm still awestruck. You're a wonderful photographer.

thebaz, your work will be appreciated when Dublin has changed beyond all recognition. Just make sure your family retain the rights to all your work. ;)

i'll have to get round to cleaning down my flickr , theres a lot of old stuff there that I'm not happy with -- prefer to make it more concise and just leave images that i'm nearly fully happy with ;)

Anyway thanks for your time and kind words.

Great stuff Baz, angle of view of the 50mm is a bit tight on some of them, have you considered looking at a 35mm prime (i've always favoured it for candid street shots)

Yep! I've said that before. You are building up a fine portfolio Barry.

Thinking about the 70-200 lens. I'm not sure. I think it would distance you from your subjects and you probably wouldn't get that spontaneity that you are getting now. Also the lens is so much bigger and expensive looking compared to the 50 or even a wide angle prime that it might make it a desirable piece of kit.

The 35mm seems like a god idea to me.

thanks Danny , think i'll go down the 35 mm route instead of the the bigger 18 - 200 , save some much needed cash to boot -- nearly got one of Keith , but unfortunatly its for a damn Canon -;) cheers folks.

A question for you Barry, how do you approach people for the photographs?
Are they not worried you're just some weirdo with a (expensive looking) camera?

Do they ask what its for and how you intend to use it?

Is there any legal thing to taking peoples pictures or is it once they agree to be photographed, the photographer can do whatever with it?

    Thanks

Photos look great by the way.

I was trying a few B&W shots around Dublin a few years ago. Most people were very approachable, but this junkie saw an opportunity. He asked me to take his picture & then gave me the address of the mother of his child. Apparently she didn't want to have anything to do with him, but he wanted his child to have a picture of him.

It was all a bit sad really, but the guy who looked most likely to slit my throat & nick my gear, was actually a soft hearted guy & very grateful for my help.

    .

the best photos is where there is good communication like above , where everyone is relaxed , i've had a few incidents , but some are glad to get "picked" - if not , i don't take it -- the stuff where i've gone back are the best - i treat all as equal , including myself, and i am probably weird , but as they say , the only normal people i know , are the ones i don't very wel :)
