There was a Dell brochure in work recently that had laptops starting at 350 + vat. Might be worth checking them out.

Gonna be difficult getting laptop with that spec, dual core, 1GB RAM for that money new. 2nd hand would be best bet for something decent.
Check out the offering on adverts.ie; Computer Hardware FS.

Edit: Cheapest I can find with Dell EPP codes in thread below is €630.

Maybe check out dell's factory clearout. Its the computers that people order then cancel or bring back. Good computers there for good money. Not sure the link but should be able to find it

Dell Vostros. Won't get cheaper, the low end ones like the Vostros 1000 - which meet your citeria fine - are cheap. Start at 399 ex. vat.

PC World also sell cheap EI System laptops for in and around the 450-500 mark, nothing spectular but close enough to what you need as well. They redesigned them lately so they actually look like real laptops now, unlike before when they looked liked something from the 90's. Also, they have some decent deals on at the moment, while it might be a tad over your budget I did see a decent Toshiba in there for 520.

Still though, I think the Vostros is the best, cheap and it looks damn nice too.

If you are willing to bid..

    Go to ebay.ie

Look for the seller : auctioning4u

    Click on laptops..

They sell THE cheapest pc's and laptops I've seen on the net, and shipping is only about 30 or 40 euro from the uk. Most units are refurbished which is why they are so cheap. One Quad-core pc went for sub 300 euros and a core2duo 1 gig ram vista went for 200 euros. As usual its ebay so final prices vary..
