Well new to me and only half an hour away. Mullaghmeen Forest. As the blurb says "Mullaghmeen is the largest planted beech forest in Western Europe. The area of 1,000 acres are situated on the Meath / Westmeath border overlooking Lough Sheelin."

I met this little chappie on the trail. Well worth a visit.

I'll take the glowy fern, just lovely, you can keep the spider though :p

Always good to hear of new forests to be explored :)

    Great Shot!

What camera and lens you use for this, do you need a dedicated macro lens for this type of shot?

    What settings also!

Sorry for all the questions just like the shot and want to learn!

oooo nice one valentia....looks like he's dropping onto someones shoulder....uurrrrgh..shivers

It was taken with a Canon 100 2.8 macro at 2.8, so very shallow DOF. Used a Canon 40D. The background was mostly darkish but the bottom was a light blue/grey so I blackened the rest for effect. Unfortunately there was a breeze so the spider isn't as sharp as I would have liked. Sure there's always something........

    Here is the untouched original:

    Thanks!!

I thought the spider in the first photo looked strange, like he was floating or something was missing, now that you've posted the original all has been revealed.

    Still a nice shot though.

Yep, I should have spent a bit longer on it and tried to keep the web.
