    Do they work over here?

Are they more expensive or cheaper in the US than here?

I will be heading to New York in a few weeks and I also need to get a new laptop, since most things are actually a lot cheaper there I thought I might as well get it over there....

Maybe so but you will get your moneys worth anyway with the tasty exchange rate euro v dollar.

Afaik the channels on the wireless card on an american laptop will only work on certain channels and unless you have admin access to the router they won't pick up a lot of european networks. But apart from that they work fine.

    Ye what?

The USA uses channels 1-11, Europe uses 1-13, I assume that is what you are referring to. All laptops will use channels 1-13, so you will not encouter any problems.

Laptops in the US (and Canada) can be much cheaper, depending on the spec. If you're getting a more powerful laptop, then the difference in price between here and the US should easily cover the cost of the flights.

    sager do savage laptops.

was going to buy one myself but for the shipping thing if you know someone in the states get it shipped there and collect it when you go over.

laptops will work fine as pointed out, just change the power block if there is not a 110-240volt switch on it.

Watch out for customs. They could nail you big time for this.

Laptops are a bit cheaper in the US alright, although it's a little hard to compare as they generally don't have exactly the same models and specifications as we have here.

The main differences are the power plug (as others have said before) and that you will have no pound sign or euro symbol on the keyboard. Also, the @ and " keys are swapped around.

Yes, but they are usually of higher spec for the same price, which is really what matters.

That is very easily overcome by the Keyboard settings in Windows.
