I have a friend in America who I call everyday!
Meteor has a new phone a friend for free deal.
If I send her over a Meteor Sim card, will i be able to call America for free. Will there be any cost to her?
Calling America for free would be pretty sweet!
    will this work,HAHAA

I would think the phone would switch over to roaming or something like that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,488 ✭✭✭mathew

You'll be charged nothing.. but she'll be charged for receiving a call abroad.
    its about €1.40 per minute.

Not a very well thought out plan, at all...

Get off the fence, it was an absolute poxy plan, that was given no intelligent thought whatsoever. I think Meteor should be allowed place one of those really old, baton, ready to throw phones, firmly up your rectum.

Yeah AFAIK they charge an up front fee for new customers going roaming. the plan sucks. Skype FTW! :)

That'd make an excellent screensaver for someone you don't particularly like. Must Google swf2scr...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,060 ✭✭✭Anto McC

Skype is free mate, you just need to download and register on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,761 ✭✭✭✭Winters

PC to PC Skype is free. You should look into it.

Skype to landline/cell phones costs somewhat but it is far cheaper then your run of the mill phone companies.

Not exactly. You have to top up with €60.. basicly because the calls are so expensive and they dont want you over drawing the account and not paying it pack. Hence the reason for registering your credit card details also. Its pretty easy to spend more than you have in credit when roaming because it takes a while for the charge to go through. Metoer dont want to be loosing any money!!!!

    But ye.. skype ftw!

Now, whether that person in America can receive the text is another thing...

and why be mean to meteor? they are such a nice phone company.

they maim o2 and vodyphone. and the whole free sms/mms for life deal... pretty unreal.

op, get skype. skype to cingular cellphone is about 7c per minute. if youre too cheap to pay that then how will you afford a new simcard and a postage stamp or three to get it there?

Would this work in the UK?

I believe Meteor do not charge for roaming there.

Yes it would work with Meteor, VF & O2 too for the UK. Its free to receive calls and SMS once you select the correct roaming partner.

My mate's gf lives in the UK and this is what they do, saves a fortune as she has no landline...

    Theres another little cheat.

Sending texts on Meteor abroad costs dosh, even if its to another 085 number...

But, for some reason, if you fill out the text completely, using up all the characters, its free!

    The OP fails at mobiles.

    lol @ phone cat

when my gf was in america she had a cingular sim card and it was only 5c to text me. of course she had to pay 5c to receive texts as well.

note: if you don't like someone and they're in america, buy a few o2 sim cards and use all 250 web texts to text them, taking 5c of their credit each time

I thought this thread was gonna be about my excellent plan to take on the phone companies......

2 people ring up and type the same number from ONE top-up ticket and then press the hash key at the same time, thereby topping up both phones. It's full of holes, this plan, but i thought the op had done this and succeeded.
