It looks like the GAA are going to try and renew the interest in the inter-Provincial Championships (formally known as the Railway Cup) since the International rules is out this year. The finals of both football and hurling inter-provincial finals will be held in Croke park under floodlights around the 27th of October. This is from the independent:

"The semi-finals of both competitions will take place at two different venues, Fermoy and Ballybofey on Saturday, October 13.

Fermoy will host the hurling (3.0) and football (1.30) between Munster and Leinster with Ballybofey's light providing the backdrop for Ulster and Connacht in hurling (6.0) and football (7.45).

Two weeks later the football decider will start 5.15 with the hurling scheduled for a 7.0 start.
    "

What do ye think of this. I personally am delighted that the GAA are going to do this. If alot of the top players in the country sign up for it and if they get it on TV and get a bit of interest in it going i don't see why it wouldn't pick up. I remeber Mickie Harte on about this early this year saying how this used to be a great occasion years ago.

Would many people in this forum go to these games? I would if i thought there would be a good effeort made with it and if the ticket price wasn't crazy.

One shouldn't depend on the other anyway. Paddy's Day was mentioned before on this forum in conjunction with the club finals.

Good idea putting 2 matches with the same provinces on. I'll be dissappointed in Ballybofey if they can't get 5,000 like a county final or poor league match. Happened before though and I think 1,500 turned up!

Maybe the GAA should advertise it like the Compromise Rules and Dublin V. Tyrone league match. Brian McEniff was probably the biggest proponent of it.

Free tickets maybe? Might get 10,000 then?

In this day of live TV and the popularity of Gaelic games, it has lost some of its lustre. It was biggest at a time when it was difficult to see the great players playing. Seeing so many of them from various counties, all on the pitch together was a major draw for crowds. Those days are long, long gone, well before the increased TV coverage of matches that we've got in the mid 1990s. It does need to be plugged. The GAA can do that very well at times, and at other times very poorly. If they did do that big publicity push, then they could get a better crowd at it. St. Patrick's Day was mentioned, which was in fact the day it was often played on in the past. As to October 27th, I'll be away that weekend, so I won't be able to go.

It's also just a few days before I head to Malawi for my charity work. I would appeal to you all to click on the link below and make a donation. This is a sports-related charity, with GAA connections. Some inter-county players will be amongst the travelling party, including Liam McHale of Mayo and John Lynch of Tyrone. Many of us have been using our credit cards to assist Ticketmaster's profits in recent months. Here is a way of putting your credit card to some good, and there is no booking fee!!!
