Just wondering- If I want to put a twin socket next to an existing one, is it possible for me to safely wire new one into terminals at back of old one? Is that considered/is it safe?

There should be a knockout on the old socket to facilitate running a wire out of the old one and back into the new one.
Should be perfectly safe as long as you don't overload the two sockets.
