IAA Membership Update

Regarding the status of the IAA response letters.

Please be aware that we are working to get the acceptance letters out to those who have applied as soon as possible. Due to various reasons affecting the working capacity of the members things have been moving slowly. We ask that you be patient and assure you that the correspondence will be with you in due course.

Regarding the number of applications received.

It is disappointing to note the small number of applications that have been received by the IAA especially since it is free this year. We would appreciate anyone who is interested or cares about airsoft to sign up and our thanks go out to those who already have.

I will be at HRTA in the morning tomorow and I will be accepting application forms then.

I'm not going to disclose this information just yet, for a number of reasons, suffice to say that uptake has been a bit disappointing.

If someone brings blank forms to HRTA tomorrow, I'll sign up. Only attended HRTA the once so far but I meant to get a membership, just put it on the long finger!

I read the IAA sticky but there is still some info I was not sure about.

Is there a Cost to Join and if so is it once off or a yearly thing ?

If someone just wants to Collect and does NOT intend to Skirmish at all
how does joining effect them and how does joining benefit them.

I would not have an interest in giving away money just to be a member
of something If I did not participate in the sport and only collected.

In the UK it looks like you have to be a member of an airsoft/skirmish club
going forward AND Skirmish a certain number of times a year?????
In order to BUY or get permission to buy an airsoft device.
That Royally Screws Collectors only in the UK up the arse.

I dont want to end up in a situation where I am forced to attend
a certain amount of skirmishs a year JUST to be allowed to buy an
    airsoft.

Dont get me wrong I would Love to Skirmish.
(Travelling all the way to Dublin is too much hassle and expensive
and time consuming) I am working 5-6 days a week
and when I get my days off I have to juggle hobbys/interests
and time with the girlfriend so for me at least
If there was someplace easy to get to Locally
and a short distance away I would probably
be there on a semi-regular basis...but until then I will
only be stocking up waiting for that day.

There is no fee this year, we will introduce annual fees next year to cover the cost of running the IAA. I believe this has been stated a number of times in other threads.

The IAA is being established to represent players, collectors etc in Ireland with regard to promoting and protecting the sport and the hobby as a whole. Should licensing etc come into play it is hoped that a body like the IAA will be able to aid in negotiating reasonable standards and practices to protect the position of members vis a vie purchases by players or collectors etc.

Well, thats up to you, but remember that the IAA is being set up for the benefit of everyone involved in the sport, not just players.

Again, the IAA has NOTHING to do with the UK and the VCR has NOTHING to do with the Republic of Ireland. We would use the UK VCR bill as a case study should the need arise of how NOT to do things.

Neither would I. However, that is not the case right now nor is it one we want to see happening. It is discriminatory towards the disabled to begin with.

We do understand that many people find it difficult to get to Dublin and introducing such a policy would be unworkable right now.

Cheers for clearing things up. Will fill in the form and give it
    a proper read etc tomorrow.

Well no. Neither myself nor Oisin have been able to move so it would have been difficult. Also, we have no idea.

lol, sorry- I had just assumed that those were forms left by others since Paul had told me to leave it with the other forms when I asked him where I could leave the application to be picked up.

I'm not in the habit of reading other people's private info :p

Folks, the letters will be going out on either Thrusday or Friday so depending on where you are in the country you should have them by the middle of next week at the latest.

Sorry for the delays so far.

I just set up an airsoft soc in college, will be asking all 61 members to join the IAA. Hope this cheers you up on the low numbers front!

Well we're having a meeting next wed, so was just gonna hand out application forms to everyone. Doubt all 61 will show up then so maybe I'll get half and half another day! Any advice?

"Punch and pie. More people will come id you say there is punch and pie" - Eric Cartman on public relations philosophy.

Bring the press release with you (you'll find it on the same thread as the application form) and have a gooseberry at the pictures on Gandalfs flicker page and even some of the photos the othe lads have had up.

If you need any specifics etc you can PM myself or NOIP, extremetaz or o1s1n and we'll be delighted to help, if not actually travel to you.

Just make sure that everyone has a good time, a good laugh and emphasise the safety aspects.

job well done on signing up 61 members, that's a good number, especially for a new society

however, one word of warning about running societies, the number you have on the books is always much larger than the number you have that actually turn up to meetings and events

with 61 members signed up, i'd expect maybe 20 at most to turn up to a meeting, if you announce that you will be discussing details of your first trip, this will be a big draw, and try to score a case of coke cans or crisps or something from your societies office if you can for meetings, not sure what way your budgeting works though, but we used to be able to buy such things out of our own pocket and then claim them back with the receipts

    kdouglas wrote:

    See? Punch and pie FTW!!!

Kdouglas is right though, 61 is an awesome number but I know from bitter experience that you can expect about a quarter to a third of those people to be actually interested or likely to really get involved, the rest are all impulse shoppers.

Still, brilliant work mate. Every extra person is another voice for the sport.

    Bald yes, stumpy no ;)

You'll see at the top of the first page of this forum "IAA APPLICATION FORM" have a read of that.

Basically, take a copy of the document, fill it out (in pen and all pages) get a copy of your passport/drivers license/Gardaa ID and then PM me for the address. A couple of weeks later you should get your acceptance letter in the post.

Faster if you include a SAE.
