Gah! Why can't I access MSN or IRC on campus? They just time out... Anyone know how I can fix this?

Computer Services said it should work fine. Earlier on it wouldn't even load web pages but at least now it does that. I found some article on Socks proxies so am hopelessly messing around with those...

Go to internet options, look for proxy settings, and click the option that allows you to enter the info on the website that thedara listed. Click save, and it should work.

    G'luck

Hi, I'm not in Windows right now so this is a rough guide, may need to fill in a gap or 2 yourself...but...

Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections (tab)
Click LAN settings button near the bottom.
Tick the box that says "Use automatic proxy configuration script" (or something like that)
Enter http://proxy.dcu.ie/proxy.pac into the box next to/under it
Click any OK buttons you see

    MSN should now work...

As for IRC, depends on the client you're using. But use the following settings:
    SOCKS version 5
    proxy.dcu.ie port 1080

<shamelessPlug>Another way to get at IRC would be to join redbrick and use it from there. Proxy and all that is preconfigured for external servers.</shamelessPlug>

    Hope that helps..
