I went last Easter for 2 or 3 days. We drove over on the ferry which was much easier (my friend I was with had flown over the year before and said ferry was better). We stayed in a B and B nearby which was very handy after a hard day on the rollercoaster! I think there's transport easily enough from Manchester though if you fly and stay there. I wouldn't advise doing it all in onw day. You'd exhaust yourself. I'd reccommend two days in the park. Also, we made the mistake of booking tickets for the two days online in advance. You can't buy a two day ticket, you have to buy two separate day tickets but if you buy a ticket for the first day you can then buy another ticket for any day in the following month for half the price.

We went to Alton Towers at the end of August. We flew from Waterford into Manchester and stayed in a B&B in Uttoxeter.

We travelled by train: Manchester airport to Manchester Picadilly, takes about 12 mins then got a different train on the next platform to Stoke on Trent, got off there and stayed on the same platform and waited 20 mins for the train to Uttoxeter.

The B&B (run by very nice people) was just a few mins walk from the train station. You literally walked up the slip road and it was on the opposite side of the roundabout. We were able to get a bus to Alton Towers, the bus stop was just across the road from the B&B and took 15 - 20 mins.

We bought our tickets online before we travelled on Alton Towers site. There was an online offer that if you came back the following day it only cost £5 for the second day, I think there was an offer that if you came back within a month it was £10.
