Not sure if this is regular topic here but I went back about 10 pages and couldn't see anything similar? Anyway I'm off to New York shortly and was looking to get a fairly high end point and shoot camera while I'm there. I wouldn't be looking to get into proper photography just something that'll small and portable and be good for a years traveling which is coming up soon as well. I've been recommended to go to this store in NY which looks grand and my Budget is around $400. So far I've had my eye on a Sony camera but if anyone had any particular advice it would be appreciated greatly :)

For travel I would recommend the Olympus Stylus 1200 it ships in October and hits the $349 mark.

    what you get is
    12MP
    Image Stabilization
    Weatherproof/shockproof body

Fuji f51fd is the upgrade of the f31fd (probably the best low light camera on the market for a P&S) - f31fd uses XD cards though :( (the f51 uses SD or XD cards).

Canons are great for their manual control - see the A710 IS or 650 IS - better than my dSLR when it comes to getting custom white balances!

Have a feel for them and see which one you're comfortable with. $400 will get you a very good P&S nowadays (almost into dSLR territory).

Excellent cheers for the advice guys. The Olympus Stylus 1200 sounds pretty good. I read a few previews and it seems pretty solid all round but there's hardly any info on the dimensions and weight which would be a main selling point for me. Also isn't 12MP a bit overkill. I would of thought 7 or 8 would be more than enough?

Thirdfox I couldn't find any info on a Fujifilm f51fd? Has it been released yet? I did find a f50fd though which looks like what you could be talking about?
