Do I double up the best player at the table?

Better than average pub game that has turned into a bit of a crapshoot at the final table because of time constraints. Six players left, top three get paid.

Villian in the hand is by far the best player at the table. Knows the game inside out, nearly always cashes and its damn near impossible to get him to pay you off with your big hands. In saying that he's a bit of a cocky little fecker and for the last hour or so he's been openly flirting with my wife who's also at the final table

Average stack is about 15k. Blinds are 800/1600. I have 20k or so. Villian hads about 7k after getting it all in with the nut straight only to lose to runner runner flush
Its folded to villian who goes all in for 7k. Its folded around to me on the BB and I look down at Q8d. Does anyone find a call here to knock out our biggest rival or should we be laying this down all day every day?

Villians range here is really wide but I dont think he would do it with less than at least an ace

I couldn't find a call here, even though i would be slightly tempted, at best you are 40/60 and so to commit a third of your stack would be pretty foolish i think.

Easy fold, especially if you think he will only do it with a hand that is ahead of yours. On the other hand you should go over to him, pin him against a wall and tell him never to even talk to your wife again never mind flirt with her, or so help you god.

That might scare him into tilting he chips away :)

LOL thats a bad beat...Did he know whe was your wife??

As far as the hand goes, never call in a million years! Why would you even consider it?? His range might be wide but your still beind to K2, A4, Q9 etc so put this in the muck quick and get on with the next hand

depends on how wide his range is, how hot your wife is etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,152 ✭✭✭Idu

Yeah he does know. It's usually the same 20 or so people playing this game so we all know each other pretty well. Think villians mate posts on here actually, he's how I heard about the site

what if we have QJ, would that change our thinking?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,724 ✭✭✭eoghan104

I know the villain in this hand and he is a great player allright! His range is huge here but you have to fold. You are too attached to soooooted cards you cant always hit a flush you know?! If you were holding QJ its still a fold but I know you would happily get it in with that!

does nobody see the added value to knocking out the best player? is that too much results based thinking or should that count for nothing and should i leave it all to the maths.

The villian is always commenting about the odds of this and that but in this game most of the players are so bad that math becomes no part of it. I wouldnt claim to be anywhere near as good as the villain but i know if I knock him out then i have a better than average chance of winning the tournament

He may be the best player, but even if everyone folds he will only have approx 6BB's. There will be better spots for one of the remaining players to knock him out.

This is a tough hand. Usually I would say fold but the extra information you include complicates things. I really think this depends on your read on your wife. I mean how solid is your relationship and has she been flirting back at him etc. I mean if you think she's being swayed by this guy then yes I can see an argument for calling to get him out.

However you are forgetting 2 things. If you call and lose then you just make yourself look more undesireable in your wifes eyes and he looks really cool and better then you. And secondly if you call you knock him out but now he is left with more time to devote to getting stuck in with her.

    So fold.

Surprised at the amount of people saying autofold.
Its costs us 5400 to win 9400, so we are good against 22-77, bad against 88+, and roughly ok against Ax Kx hands ????.

Was villain UTG or on button?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,004 ✭✭✭pok3rplaya

Or on second thoughts if you fold and punch your wife chuck norris style then it solves everything.

    See example:

Who cares about that, what we want to know is if you went home with his wife?

    Couple of issue.

    q8 is a serious hand....910jack all in between those cards..easy st8 2 be made..haha..and i did mention they were suited=monster.

when i do play this game i am by far the most serious looking player in this prestigious event and eoghan and duncan can have janette i have my sights set on other ladies in the game.Possibly the hottest pond for ladies in south Leinster!!

I take my hat off duncan, this thread has made my work day fly by!

I certainly would not be folding qj suited in this situation.

    Lmao, thanks you Op.
The, I'm the villian bit really made this. I was thinking, nobody would admit that the villain was better than him and knew his game 100% inside out. :)
