Not sure if this is the right place but its the closest i could find to the subject

Im not working at the moment and I am not on Social Welfare- I am living off my savings. I have been jobhunting but seems i need more skills.

I was intested in doing a course with Failte Ireland- but from looking on their website im more confused- Seems you have to be on the dole to do the courses.

    Heres what it said:

    Who should apply?

Any of the following people may apply:

    • Those registered as unemployed
    • Mature adults who wish to return to the workforce
    • If at least 17 years (18 for bar) of age
    • Irish or EU citizens
    • And/or a particular interest in the Tourism Industry
    • People with refugee or residency status*.

I am over 18 and an irish citizen but im not reg as unemployed or any of the other things on the list.

Could anyone tell me is that enough to be allow to apply for one of the courses as they have not answered any of my emails

    PS- move if necessary

Why don't you register as unemployed then? That's what you are *supposed* to do when you are out of work - you pay your PRSI so you are entitled to the dole.

i refuse to go on the dole for the simple fact that the last time i did the fas office rang me EVERY WEEK (im not joking) askin me to send them proof of jobs i applied for(most jobs dont even ge back to you) and i was sick of it- i was genuinely looking for work and because most jobs didnt reply to me they made me feel like a scut who didnt wanna work and in one interview the FAS guy said i was lazy!

I had a job but recently the company i worked for had a major dip (another restaurant in the area opened up)and i lost my job- and ive been living off my savings since.

besides i cant go on the dole- ive 7000 saved in my bank(4000 given to me in my uncles will- the rest i saved )- and they wont give me the full dole if ive a good bit of savings plus if uv money in ur savings they put more pressure on u so wats the point

I think you would get unemployment benefit as at the end of the day it's your money you've contributed via PRSI. Assistance would be means tested I think, so then your savings would come into account.
The Dept of Social Welfare must have damn all else to do if they can ring you every week! They'd be better off chasing the messers and chancers who've never worked a day in their lives. I wouldn't and have never applied for benefit for the same reason.
I think you should apply for the course anyway. You are unemployed after all and no matter about registered or not. It makes me laugh the obstacles they put in your way. A few years ago a friend who was genuinely unemployed had great difficulty getting onto a FAS course. She did get to do it in the end but wasn't paid while doing it whereas others were paid and these were using their dole money to finance trips away!
