And no, not the wedding shots.

Myself and Elven visited a pretty deserted military store while in Scotland last weekend. Was a pretty interesting place. Would love to go back at night and do some light painting. Anyways, was looking to show the isolation of the place. It also reminded me of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. if any of you have played it.

Is defo worth a trip back.

As usual, all pics are clickable to view larger on a black background, which, as usual, I reccommend.

Anyways, let me know what you think.

Edit: Link to Elven's shots of the same place.

Heh, yours and mine are like night and day!

They look great together as a set, even though there are a few different treatments there, they complement each other and stop them being too same-ish. That sky is just a dream. Can't decide if I like the second last, or last one with the birdies, best :)

Now I'd love to do some light painting there but it would scare the crap out of me. And I'm sure the sheep are murderous after sundown....

Very cool and interesting photos. We're off to Scotland on Saturday, so hope to get some good photos.

great stuff generally - you've captured the solitude of the place. they invoke a very dark mood - almost Hitchcock like. as already mentioned the sky's are wonderful (must have taken a heck of a long time to arrange the clouds just as you'd like them!). nice postprocessing all around.

the only criticism (boo hiss) is number 5 - it don't work for me. I can see what you were attempting to capture but the tip of the mountain just cut off / catching off the top of the frame kinda kills it for me. your foreground is defined, middle a bit if-y, and background is nearly 'there' but not quite. by contrast i think the upper third of no 4 works quite well. but this could be just me....

like the birds one - evil rooks/crows/whatever...

overall great stuff - well done.

Great job Al. Love the treatment. What are the buildings? Not Julie's home place??;)

Paul, have fun, tis a great place.

Cat, number 5 was is actually my favourite, it's the sign in the foreground that I like about it, and the buildings in the background, with such a boring midground I guess... Each to their own though! Heh, I gave the birds a bit of a burning, they're actually pigeons, but thought they'd look a lot better as crows ;)

Danny, the buildings are old military stores. One of the ones I went into had a list of the amount of explosives allowed inside. Fun times.

Great shots Al, my favourites are 4&5. I love the treatment too.

Fantastic shots . Love 1, 4 and 5. Can I be cheeky and ask what sort of treatments did you apply to get those great tones?

Some great shots there. love the darkness of them tbh.

Is the place open to the public or not?

Well, the gates are open, we drove right in and kind of abandoned the car then went wandering. There are sheep everywhere and they gave us dirty looks but apart from that we got no hassle :) There was a farm worker in a tractor saw us and didn't say anything so it seemed ok...

    Some nice work there, Al.

Definitely reminded me of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. tho you might need to add the radioactivity induced noise!

I would rotate no.2 so that the back wall is more level, I know the verticals are straight but the back wall is kinda distracting.

4 and 5 are great, I like the texture in the grass in 4.
I agree with you about the sign, really works.

    I don't like 6 tho :p
    seems overdone.

All in all some really nice work!

The farmer on the bike gave us a funny look too.

    Thanks lads.

Processing wise, plenty of curves adjustment layers, blurred layers, custom white balancing, and a bit of sharpening.

All shot at 1600iso to give it a bit of STALKER like noise.

Funnily enough, No.6 has the least bit of work done to it!
