I saw an '88 C reg Mazda RX7 in a photo 2 days ago....don't recall if it was here or on Octane.ie. It was a recent pic of it on a road run around Ireland (gold coloured car, silver-on-black number plates).

IIRC, rotorary Mazda's are popular cars in NZ....I recall seeing quite a few of them on the roads there when I was living there in 2004.

Interestingly, I also spotted a mid-80's Opel Manta hatch in Kerikeri (North Island) ....I don't suppose there are many Manta's in NZ ??? (me being a Manta fan ;) )

    Hey rotordude,

Thats right....Opels are called 'Holden's in NZ and Oz.
I worked with Avis car hire near Christchurch Airport and drove lots of Holdens while there. I was actually surprised to see the Manta...and iirc it did have an 'Opel' badge (I suppose it could have been a personal import).

Did you locate the RX7 pics I mentioned?
Im fairly sure it was in the 'garage/gallery' section over on www.octane.ie

Did the Manta not have an Opel badge in the UK too?

Correct, it did. It was the only 'Opel' sold in the UK until 1989 while all other Opels were badged as Vauxhalls in the UK.

(I stand to be corrected, but I think the Monza was initially badged as a Vauxhall Royale Coupe, but also later sold/badged as an Opel Monza)

There was a Holden saloon sold in Japan as a Mazda. It was called the Roadpacer. It is similiar to the Kingswood models.

It WAS a Holden Kingswood (expect for badges, engine and drivetrain etc). Bit of a flop and now very very rare. :D
