Photo Competition - big prize

Hey,

Lee Jeans are doing a photo competition in Ireland which might be of interest to some of you interested in getting your work published. They've teamed up with Mongrel mag and if you go to their site http://www.mongrel.ie/makehistory.php it goes into greater detail.

I emailed the magazine - the best entry get used in next months edition of the magazine.

From the site ---You can get involved by sending us, makehistory@mongrel.ie, your photo story. The mood of this campaign is more communal than competitive - however, the best picture stories will be printed in Mongrel under the Make History banner, with one picture story ultimately receiving a top prize of €50,000.

The call for stories is completely open: simply an invitation to share a point of view or portray a sentiment. Although the entries below span different cultures and the themes are wildly diverse, the campaign aims to establish its own sense of unity, in which different stories play off each other and develop into something larger. History is still in the making and the call for stories is still open.

Pretty confused about this competition. Does it take place over the space of the next couple of years? Why does everything refer back to italy, italian or the italian president?
And.... whats the theme again?

Thats the most open theme I've ever come across ever. Don't see the connection with Lee jeans either - how does it relate to their brand/products etc ?

Don't see any rules or t's&c's either. Forgive me for being suspicious but leaves a lot of questions unanswered doesn't it ?

50 grand?? Now where would they get money like that? Looks hokey to say the least.

A lot of unanswered questions with no one from the magazine comming back to us. I was reading on the website and there are to T&C. Not sure how common this one is but I'm not sure I like it...

"All work remains the intelectual property of the artist.

Neverless, from the moment in which the work is received, the De Mitri Foundation reserves the rights to the exclusive use of it for the duration of the initiative. During this time, the artist is free to exhibit his/her photographs, but not to sell, lend or grant to others the use of the materials for which the Foundation has a temporary exclusive right of use."
