    Hi there,

I'm having a problem with my pc at the moment, this board has been pretty helpfull to me in the past so hopefully u can help me out again;)

Basically over the last few days after about 30-60 minutes of using my pc my broadband connection dies on me. Works fine up untill then. At first I thought it was just my isp ( eircom) experiencing a downtime but when it repeatadly started happening I suspected otherwise.

Weird thing is all i have to do to rectify the problem is restart the pc and it will work again but obviously thats not a solution. Anyone have any ideas on what my cause this? dodgey network card?

    I'm using an Asus A8N-E, nForce4 Ultra.

Anyone have any suggestions on how even to troubleshoot this? I'm a bit of a dummy when it comes to this sort a thing :(

    Thanks

Eircom's Netopia router leases IP addresses by DHCP for an hour at a time and causes the connection to drop. You can probably change this however.

If this is the problem, then I'd suggest you assign your PC a static IP address. Open Network Connections from the Control Panel. Right click on Local Area Network or whatever your NIC is called. Choose Properties. In the first tab, double click on IPv4 in the list. Change the radio button allow you to input the settings yourself.

Here are suggested settings [may not work if you changed settings on the router]:
    • IP address: 192.168.1.1
    • Netmask: 255.255.255.0
    • Gateway: 192.168.1.254
    • DNS 1: 192.168.1.254
