Muhammad Ali, three time world heavyweight boxing champion, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize this year. Also nominated was Peter Georgi, Ali's senior humanitarian consultant. The nomination is based on Ali’s fight for the creation of the Children's General Assembly, linked to the United Nations

“You can not find a better candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize than Muhammad Ali,” said Subash Razdan, president of the Gandhi Foundation USA, the organization that nominated him.

Muhammad Ali, born in Louisville, Kentucky, has a long career of action promoting the peace and helping children around the world. A pacifist, he lost his heavyweight title belt when he refused to join the U.S. army during the Vietnam War. The Ali foundation supports and carries out studies to ease the hardships suffered by patients afflicted with Parkinson's disease, a disease that also afflicts the ex-champion.

The winner of the award will be announced in the middle of October by the Nobel Committee. For further information on the Children’s Peace Foundation or to make a donation, visit http://www.childrens-general-assembly.org/.
