definitely gbb, they're so much better, much more realistic and just great fun to fire

although if it is your first airsoft gun and you intend to use it for a skirmish, i'd definitely recommend getting an aeg first instead, you'll appreciate it much more

i've 2 gbb's at the moment, one is a HFC beretta m92fs (with full auto) and the other is a KSC glock 19, both bought from ehobbyasia.com

if your in dublin, i'd definitely recommend taking a trip to BFSL and having a look, he has a few gbbs and aegs there and you can get a good feel for what you like, prices are decent enough too

GBB! Also get the Propane Adaptor and a can of propane from BandQ or similar.

KJW are flawless IMO and shiva has some for pre-order at great prices. Shipping them from UK will be deer and from asia isnt worth it with them weighing 700/800g and upwards. Shivas shipping will be like a tenner or if your close you can collect from him or see him at HRTA. If BFSL is near you give him a look-in too.

AEP = Much much more reliable & easier/quicker to reload.
GBB = More fun & usually more powerful. But they do seem to be more prone to problems.

For skirmishing, the AEP is IMHO better. For everything else, GBB is king.

GBB's are the ultimate in Airsoft fun. I've gotten a load of kills with my KJW P226 GBB. I've also had zero problems with it and it's been used quite a bit. One of the mags did fail on me but the pistol is sound :)

They are more expensive to run then AEP's though.

It all depends on what brand you buy.

Some GBBs can be unreliable. Some are completely reliable. The KSC g19 is an example of the latter.

AEPs can be just as unreliable. Any times I've tried to use those CYMA glocks they just wouldnt fire. I'm sure the TM one doesnt have that problem though.

So again, its mostly down to brand.

Personally I find AEPs sound really pathetic, fire pathetic and the ones with a moving slide move pathetic. They're fun for at home when you want to shoot some targets but don't want to use gas. But to be honest that's about it.

I was going to say an AEP would be good for CQB, but I'd much rather a GBB.

Each type of airsoft has a power source which suits it best.

Assault rifles and fully auto rifles - Electric AEG
Sniper rifles - spring action (Gas too but it's not as reliable)
    Pistols - Gas

When you start deviating from the power sources mentioned, like putting electric in a pistol, you end up with a bit of a Frankenstein.

as above its realy personal preference and both do have their uses. Ive got a pair of hfc m199's meself and i bought a cyma glock Aep mainly for reliability and the insane 100 round mags. I had tought the glock would be more ideal in cqb but after playin a single round with a glock in one hand and 1 of my m199's in the other i havnt taken the glock out since. Their nowere near as fun as a Gbb[or 2:p ] but not only that i realy did notice how long it takes bb's to reach your target i was quite shocked by that actually.I found taht sometimes your target would be back around the corner by the time the bb's reached him [even indoors] It's very noticeable when firing both of em together.
In saying all that Aep's do work alot better in the cold, have a nice rate of fire and can have 100 round mags to boot, but ill never use mine again

I would have to say GBB. I got my first back in March, a KJW P226.

Since then I have got a KSC G18C metal slide and USP .45 metal slide. All function perfectly. The sound of the G18C on full auto always brings a smile to my face.

    AEP = LAAAAMMMMMMMEEEE :D

There's nothing more satisfying (in airsoft....) than the recoil and blowback from a GBB pistol.

    What he said ^

I've only ever fired an AEP once, and I hope I never have to dirty my hands by touching one of those abominations again.

Someone emailed me last week and asked me would I get some AEP's in stock.
    They'll never find his body.

It's a great pistol, nice weight to it, full metal and yeah starting off with two mags is great. TBH when I first thought about getting a pistol I wanted to get an AEP as they are cheaper to run and have high capacity magazines as well as being reliable in cold weather. I fired one and it basically coughed out a round. Then I got my W.E. M1911A1. It feels like a pistol should and when you fire it a big smile comes across your face. Let me put you in a situation, Enemy charging towards you defensive position, you wipe out your pistol and roar "Gentlemen! Prepare to defend your positions!" you just can't do that with an AEP you need the BoooooOOMMMM you get from a GBB.

What about using a compact AEG as a side-arm, something like the MP5k?
Does anyone skirmish with this as backup alongside an assault rifle AEG?

There are a few people who do this (dont know who but I know they are out there) usually with MP7's or MP5K's.

i think i've seen some people use an mp5k once or twice, but personally, unless it can be holstered neatly, it's just gonna get in the way

now two underarm-slung mp5k's for indoor is a different story altogether :D

I have an MP5K, I find a good way to carry it is to get a vest that you can shove it down the front of with the grip sticking out. Although my Maruzen Vz61 Skorpian is better for this as it's a bit smaller.

Is that the AEG or GBB Skorpian?

The GBB. Bought it off a guy on Red Alliance with 3 mags and a real East German leather mag pouch. Out of action at the moment I'm afraid, it's blown an o-ring :(

you can always get one of the short mags for holstering puroses still enough ammo in it to make sure people keep their heads down and then draw out the lonh mag from a drop leg pouch or similar.

But the man speaks the truth long mag + holster = tears give it a hard enough whack and you could end up damaging your bolt or even ( in an extreme case ) shattering the pistol grip. KSC do a short mag easyily found on the interwebs.

Also without doubt get a Gbb much more fun than the AEP. if you want to use a backup AEG holster an mp7 as has been mentioned or buy a shoulder rig for the MP5 Kurtz ( like i do on occasion) . holds the gun securely and will also take 2 X 200 round hicaps. so you really wont be caught short.
