Pocket POD or V-Amp2?

Just looking for any thoughts on the above. I'm looking for something mostly for home practice and (rough) home recording. I don't need professional standard gear, the price for these two units is about right, and they both seem to do everything I need. If I can use it practicing with my band all the better, and if either will sound good running direct into a PA or through a solid-state amp that's another bonus.

So any thoughts on which is better? Which has a better tone? I play blues and blues-rock with a strat, looking to get a Clapton and/or Gilmour type sound - not exact, but something I can use in that kind of area. Has anyone here used both?

I'm kinda leaning towards the POD, but there doesn't seem to much in the difference going from online reviews.

Theres a new line of PODs due next month (X3 series), so expect some deals on the current range of Pods (XTs).

They'll still be a good bit more than the PocketPod or V-AMP, but might be worth considering. Much better tones tbh, and USB for recordings. Just something to keep an eye out for.

Thanks, but the XT is a little out of my price-range. The LINE6 PODII is a reasonable price, any idea how that compares?

Yes, but if you wait untill the new Pod series is out, you can snag an XT used for a lot less.

Yeah, that was my point. It might be e300 or whatever now, but expect to find it cheaper when the new models come out. And of course second hand prices will take a hammering too.

That's what i'd go for, even if it meant saving up an extra hundred quid or so. The XT range really are much, much better than the old gen2 technology (Pocketpod, Pod2.0, floorpods etc) and the USB interface is nearly worth the price difference alone.

But if your budget is really really tight, fair enough.

It's more a case of being really impatient! I can get a pocket pod now, or wait a few weeks.. :(

What advantage does the usb connection have? I don't use midi, I record via a line-in connection on my pc and/or laptop and until now have being going direct from my guitar. I think my results have been ok, adding distortion and effects afterwards with plugins, but there is definitely room for improvement.

    Thanks for the input! :D

Sorry to drag this up. What did you get.

I got the V-amp. It's fine for what I wanted, I can practice in (almost) silence, sounds great through headphones, and I've recorded a few tracks with it and they came out well. I tried it in a band rehearsal setting and it really didn't work, either through an amp or direct into the PA. I really didn't want it for live work though.
