Travelling to HK for the new year and then onto Ho Chi Minh, Bangkok & Ko Samui and then back to Hong Kong

What is the best currency to bring ? HK should be ok and I am going to use my Atm & maybe get HKD cash. Not sure if I should bring some Usd traveller cheques and some Usd hard currency?

Or maybe bring some Thai Baht for taxi from airport. Can you get Vietnam Dong here or just wait until I arrive and get to HK or get it at an ATM in Ho Chi Minh Aiport ?

Also views on the Ko San Road as not sure if to stay here or somewere near siam square. Only in BK for 2-3 days so KSR is near the attractions. Not going particular for shopping. Also not backpackers but not loaded so does it depend on taste ?

Whenever I go away I just get local currency with my CC at the airport.

Atm's at the airport are the handiest.

Been to Bangkok a few times and find best place to stay is Sukhumvit road. Central to everything and on the skytrain so easy access to rest of city

Deciding on bringing some HKD and then maybe small denomination of Usd bills and get some Vietnam Dong in the airport for the taxi ride to hotel etc

May also bring some Thai Baht and then get some more in the airport

Also mad the option of staying in Ko San Road as its near the places of interest. If we want to go shopping near Siam can get taxi

Would'nt worry too much about carrying thai bhat round with you, you'll find plenty of atm's at airpor.

In relation to Ko san road for accom , it depends what you want to go for , if a cheap and cheerful guesthouse for 300-500 baht per night then ko san is the spot, if you want a decent hotel for 1000-1500 baht per night then sukhumvit road would be your best bet.

Personally speaking Ko san road offers more in terms of meeting other travelers and cheap eats and drinks.

    Enjoy :D

Get all of your currency at the airport in Bangkok, or in Hong Kong.

Best option is to withdraw it using your credit card at the airport - this gives the best exchange rate.

What I would do however is bring a load of small US dollar bills for use in Vietnam. ($1)
